RESEARCH & EDUCATION
Research, publications, and surgical education.
My academic work includes clinical outcomes research, hand and upper-extremity reconstruction, three-dimensional surgical planning, musculoskeletal biology, operative textbook chapters, and medical education.
My current interests focus on applying research and technology to problems that affect surgical planning, treatment, and recovery.
CURRENT RESEARCH
Areas of ongoing work.
Current projects examine surgical reconstruction, emerging technology, and the relationship between systemic health and musculoskeletal outcomes.
Surgical Planning & Reconstruction
Research involving three-dimensional imaging and custom cutting guides for wrist bone reconstruction.
Musculoskeletal Biology
Translational investigation of mitochondrial transplantation as a potential biologic strategy for osteoarthritis.
Clinical Outcomes & Systemic Health
Large-database research examining how medications, metabolic health, and other systemic factors may relate to fracture risk and orthopaedic outcomes.
PUBLICATIONS & BOOK CHAPTERS
Selected academic work.
My published work spans orthopaedic outcomes, perioperative risk, patient-reported outcomes, telemedicine, value in healthcare, and operative surgical education.
Peer-Reviewed Publications
I am an author or coauthor of 26 peer-reviewed publications examining surgical outcomes, patient-reported measures, telemedicine, opioid use, perioperative risk, and value in orthopaedic care.
These experiences provide a foundation in clinical study design and large dataset analysis.
Book Chapters
I have contributed chapters on scapholunate and lunotriquetral reconstruction, perilunate injuries, ulnar shortening osteotomy, boutonnière and swan-neck deformities, thumb carpometacarpal arthroplasty, and finger fracture fixation.
These projects translate operative decisions into a sequence another surgeon can understand and apply.
TEACHING AND GLOBAL SURGERY
Education across clinical and international settings.
My educational work includes resident and medical-student teaching, formal lectures, grand rounds, surgical laboratories, and international surgical education.
Teaching
As a chief resident and hand surgery fellow, I taught residents and medical students through operating-room instruction, conferences, grand rounds, and cadaver laboratories.
Selected topics have included wrist reconstruction, hand trauma, elbow fracture approaches, digital nerve injury, and peripheral nerve palsy.
Global Surgery
In 2026, I participated in Handzania, an upper-extremity surgical and educational mission in Tanzania.
Our work included operative care, collaboration with local and international clinicians, and co-hosting a Hand and Upper Extremity Seminar.
